Waterford Graded officials review policy

Administrators and School Board members in the Waterford Graded district are reviewing a policy that outlines the district’s overall belief and mission statement.

The document, known as Policy 112, touches on a number of issues, including how the district aims to foster a high level of student achievement and meet specific benchmarks.

Members of the School Board’s Policy and Curriculum Committee were presented with a first reading of the policy at a meeting held Sept. 9.

A second reading is scheduled for the October committee meeting before it heads on to the full School Board for final action.

During the preliminary review, board president Robert Kastengren said he will be presenting some suggested changes, describing certain passages within the policy as being “too wordy.”

New fire alarm system for Evergreen

A new fire alarm system will soon be installed at Evergreen Elementary School, following a decision last week by the Waterford Graded School Board.

During a special School Board held Sept. 9, officials decided to move forward with plans.

The new alarm system will be linked to the school’s sprinklers throughout the school, including locker rooms and a smoke sensor that is already in place.

Evergreen’s internal alarm system will also be wired to the alarm company providing the infrastructure. The goal is to provide communication as rapid as possible to local fire agencies in the event of an actual fire emergency.
