Burlington runners win Fox Trot

Capturing the top three spots in each race, the Burlington High School cross country teams won the three-team Fox Trot Meet at Wilmot Friday.

The Demon girls tallied just 21 points, while the boys had just 24 points.

Meta Ehlen, Brittany Ehlen and Ashlyn Barry finished 1-2-3 in the girls’ race. Meta Ehlen was clocked in 17 minutes 22 seconds, with Brittany Ehlen just one second back. Barry was timed in 18:03.

“Meta did a great job controlling the pace of the race with Brittany pushing her,” head coach Rick Koceja said.

Marah Zinnen led a pack of three Demon runners who all finished within five seconds of each other. Zinnen ran an 18:58, Kit Kocha a 19:01 and Aleigha Barry a 19:02. The three came in at seventh, eighth and ninth places.

The other two Demon girls who ran Friday were Miranda Reed (20:07) and Kayla Wilson (20:50).

Noah Strohm, Nathaniel Sibley and Ben Lois finished 1-2-3 in the boys’ race.

“Noah and Nathaniel ran together on a challenging course and Ben was in pursuit,” Koceja said.

Strohm ran an 18:07, Sibley an 18:09 and Lois an 18:24.

Joe Kusik was clocked in 19:05 (seventh place), Ethan Wills in 20:05 (11th), Dakota Taylor in 20:43 (14th) and Emilio Pettis in 20:44 (15th).

“Joe and Ethan did an excellent job in moving up during the race to secure the victory,” Koceja said.

In the girls race, Wilimot was second with 44 points and Shoreland Lutheran third with 86.

Shoreland Lutheran was second in the boys’ race with 32 points and Wilmot third with 77.

 

Schedule

The regular season comes to a close with the Southern Lakes Conference Meet at Lutherdale Camp on Saturday, Oct. 19.

The girls’ varsity race begins at 9:50 a.m. with the boys to run at 11 a.m.
