Andrew ‘Andy’ George Hansen, 102, Union Grove, died April 11, 2014, after a brief illness. He was born in Racine in 1912 and lived an early life of farming. He joined the Racine County Highway department in his mid-life years and until he retired in 1977. He was known in his long time Union Grove community as an avid flower gardener, drawing an award for his beautiful backyard. An avid Brewers fan, he always had the radio tuned to Bob Uecker’s commentary. Everyone enjoyed his quick smile and wry humor.
Survivors include his children, Marilyn Davis, Delafield, and Mark (Carlene) Hansen, Mequon; grandsons, Andrew and Robert Hansen; step-grandchildren, Michael Davis and Laura Davis Liebe; step-great-grandchildren, Brandyn, Bryce, Meaghan, Michael, Nicholas; younger brother, John Hansen; his dear and special friend, Pat; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera in 2002; his son-in-law, Charles Davis; and 11 brothers and sisters.
The family extends a very special thanks to the many volunteers from “Meals on Wheels,” the Wheaton Franciscan Home Health Care staff, and all the staff at Burlington Memorial Hospital that made his final days comfortable and provided great support to the family. Thank you also to his many neighbors whose watchfulness made it possible for him to extend his independence at home – you were family to him, too.
Visitation is Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home, 620 15th Ave., Union Grove. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m., with burial at the Union Grove Memorial Cemetery to immediately follow.
