RICHARD F. SCHENNING

Easter Lily

Richard F. ‘Dick’ Schenning, 90, Lily Lake, died April 13, 2014, at Geneva Lake Manor.

He was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Silver Lake on to the late Otto C. and Florence E. (Strasburg) Schenning. He spent his early life in Silver Lake and Wheatland Township, graduating from Wilmot High School.

He proudly served his country during the Korean War as an Army Medic with the 280 Paratroopers. He served from 1946 to 1953.

On Feb. 12, 1955, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kenosha, he married Margaret Mary Labowsky. Following marriage they made their home in Lily Lake, in the town of Wheatland.

He served as a Deputy Sheriff for Kenosha County for 27 years, retiring in 1979. He also owned O & O Construction for many years. He was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilmot, the American Legion Silver Lake Post 293, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a 50-year member of the Silver Lake Sportsman Club and the Kenosha Hunting & Fishing Club.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Barbara (Robert) Brackett, Janesville; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Rocky) Decker, Andrew Brackett, Alex (Casey Goodsell) Brackett; great-grandchild, Chase Decker; brother, Milton Schenning; and sister-in-law, Dolores Schenning.

He was further preceded in death by his son, John Schenning; infant son, David; brother, Rodell; sister, Margaret Schenning; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Schenning.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Geneva Lake Manor for all their care and compassion they gave to Dick and the family.

Funeral services are Thursday, April 17, at 11 a.m., at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilmot with the Rev. James Fischer presiding. Burial will follow the service at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in New Munster. Visitation is Wednesday, April 16, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, from 4-7 p.m., and on Thursday, April 17, at the church from 10:30-11 a.m.
