MARY L. TENNESSEN

Easter Lily

Mary Louise Tennessen, 78, Burlington, died April 13, 2014, at her home.

She was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Arkansas City, Kan., to the late William and Alta Marie (Foskett) Hills. She spent her early life in Tucson, Ariz., and Pueblo, Colo.

On April 15, 2000, in Burlington, she married Andrew James Tennessen. Following marriage they made their home in Lyons.

She was a seamstress, specializing in draperies. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite). She loved singing, decorating her home and upholstering furniture. She was an optimistic person who loved entertaining people, especially her family.

Survivors include her children, Sonny Sheppard, Debbra (Daniel Long) Burge, Faith (Ronald) Sheppard-Tatrow, Gabrielle (Carl Harnish) Sheppard, Laura (Brady) Farrell, Benjamin (Chipper) Tennessen, Charity Farrell; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and a sister, Shirley Evans.

She was further preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gray; son, Merle Sheppard; son-in-law, Patrick Farrell; brothers, Bill Hills, Charles; and sister, Elaine Hills.

A special thank you to God Almighty for His love. In the face of some of the gravest difficulties anyone can face in life, she would find the ray of sunshine, the glimmer of hope, and the evidence of God’s love and presence.

Visitation is Monday, April 21, from 11 a.m., until time of services at 2 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Burial will follow in Hudson Cemetery.
