Gary L. Olson, 78, Burlington, died May 30, 2014, at his home. He was born Feb. 29, 1936, to the late Lloyd and Bernice (Frieberg) Olson in Rockford, Ill. He spent his early life in Rockford before moving to Burlington, where he graduated from Burlington High School. He earned his master’s degree in education at Winona State University.
On June 1, 1957, he married the late Joann Christensen in Racine. Following marriage they resided in Burlington. He worked for the Burlington School District for 36 years, serving as the principal of Cooper School. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Burlington Lions Club. He loved the outdoors and spending time in Three Lakes. He enjoyed going to dog shows and showing dogs. More than anything he cherished the time he spent with his grandkids. They meant the world to him.
Survivors include his son Scott (Shannon); grandchildren, Karleigh, Taylor and Aaron Olson.
He was further preceded in death by his wife Joann; daughter, Tracy; and sister, Sally.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 4, at 6 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington, with the Rev. Jim Volkert officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 4-5:45 p.m., at The Good Shepherd Chapel at St. Mary’s. Burial is Thursday, June 5, at 10 a.m., at the Bristol – Paris Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
