‘Christmas Carol’ comes to CATHE stage

“God bless us, everyone!”
The famous words of Tiny Tim seem to bless at least one local theater stage every holiday season, and this year, the CATHE Youth Theater will produce Charles Dickens’ famous “A Christmas Carol,” starting Friday.
The show will run Friday and Saturday, as well as Dec. 15-17 at 7 p.m. at the CATHE Center in Burlington. Sunday matinees are Dec. 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.
Cost of a ticket is $6.
The play tells the story of old miser Ebenezer Scrooge, a man set in his ways of frugality and opposed to celebrating the holiday. However, a visit from the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, sets in motion a series of visits from Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
Scrooge revisits his youth, and then sees the suffering of his employee, Bob Cratchit and his family – as well as the merriment ringing in the holiday that his nephew, Fred, celebrates.
On the third and final visit, Scrooge sees what is to come – and his redemption seals the story of the Christmas spirit.
Scrooge is played by Glenn Moritz, with David Corey playing Bob Cratchit and Abby Korb playing Mrs. Cratchit. Tiny Tim is played by Sterling Leathers.
Marley will be played by Terry Lemmon. The three ghosts are being played by Isabel Moritz (Past), Micah Gabel (Present) and Jody Intine (Future).
The show is directed by Sherry Engstrom, assisted by Susan Cwik. Alice Campbell will play the organ, with Leslie Huntress Hopkins serving as choreographer.
Gebel is also directing the children’s choir.
