KAREN M. KIRKEENG

Easter Lily      Karen M. Kirkeeng, 66, died July 9, 2014, in the loving presence of her husband at their home.

She was born Jan. 24, 1948, to the late Marion and Ruth Mitchell in Chicago. She graduated from Hampshire High School in 1966.

She married Gerald Kirkeeng on Aug. 26, 1967, and together they raised four children. She dedicated her life to her family and was a stay at home mom. She was an active member of Mount Zion Christian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and decorating/rehabbing houses. She had a mind for seeing the beauty in all things and for making things more beautiful. Karen had a calling to be a foster mother to 12 children. Because of those children she volunteered with the Special Olympics.

Survivors include her husband; children, Bruce Kirkeeng, Chad (Heather) Kirkeeng, Trumaine ‘TJ’ Kirkeeng, and Carol Gerlach; grandchildren, Nicole, Monica, Jessica, Kayla, Alexis, Tyler, Kylie, and Emily; great-grandchildren, Tia, Damian, and Jane; siblings, David (Judy) Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, and Mary (Daniel) Ebert; brother-in-law, Duane (Ellie) Kirkeeng.

She was further preceded in death by her son, Steven.

Visitation is Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at Mt. Zion Christian Church in Lake Geneva. The memorial service will begin at noon. Burial is Monday, July 21, at noon, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. Miller-Reesman, Kasuboski, Haas, and Dahl Funeral Home, Union Grove, is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Mt. Zion Christian School.

The family would like to thank the hospice program of Aurora Visiting Nurse Program. They also extend a special thank you to Terri Lulling for all her help and support.
