MICHAEL F. FIGARELLI

Easter Lily      Michael F. Figarelli, 89, Elkhorn, died July 14, 2014, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.

He was born in Chicago on April 28, 1925, to the late Nicholas and Rose (Spino) Figarelli. He spent his early years in Chicago where he graduated from high school. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946 where he was on motor torpedo boats and served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.

On May 4, 1957, in Chicago, he married Mary Ann Kurtzeborn. Following marriage they made their home in Chicago and Franklin Park. They always vacationed in Burlington, and eventually moved to Burlington in 1987. She preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 2010.

He worked for M&M Mars Candy Company in Chicago for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington, was a former assistant Scout Master for 29 years in Franklin Park, Ill., and served nine years as Commissioner for the Boy Scouts in Burlington. In his leisure time he liked riding his bike, walking around the lake, reading and golfing.

Survivors include his children, Michael (Carol) Figarelli, Phillip (Marina) Figarelli, William Figarelli and Thomas (Jessie) Figarelli; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Carmeil (Fred) Spino, Robert (Ava) Figarelli and Donald (Julie) Figarelli.

He was further preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Sandro and Theresa Kerns, and great-grandson, Julian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Boy Scouts of America or The Alzheimer’s Association of Wisconsin would be appreciated.

Visitation is July 18, from 9-10:45 a.m., with services at 11 a.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Burial follows at 2 p.m., at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill.
