While summer weather has taken a back seat to fall-type temperatures this week, a Burlington summer tradition starts next week.

The annual Burlington Sidewalk Sales and Area Rummage Sales will take place Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26.

“It’s coming along very well, actually,” said Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jan Ludtke. “We have vendors in the park, and any of the businesses who want to go out on the sidewalks, we encourage that.”

In addition, Ludtke said, the chamber is encouraging businesses that won’t use their sidewalk space to give it to a non-profit group or encourage employees to use the space.

“We were very happy (last year),” Ludtke said about that aspect of the event.

The sidewalk sales – which were called Maxwell Street Days until a few years ago – traditionally see businesses hold sales outside. Some have offered popcorn, and generally, the sidewalks are packed with people strolling through the city.

There will also be music in Wehmhoff Square Park July 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., plus the Historical Society will have an ice cream social that day as well, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tri-County Riders will be selling food in the gazebo Friday and Saturday as well, starting at 11 a.m.

The chamber is also encouraging city-wide garage/rummage sales on the 25th and 26th.

The Friends of the Burlington Public Library book sale will run from Thursday, July 24 through Saturday, July 26.

The preview sale will run from noon to 2 p.m. July 24. Admission is $5 per person or $15 for a family. The sale will then run with free admission from 2 to 7 p.m. on the 24th, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 25th.

The Saturday sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with bags costing $3 to fill with books.
