JOAN M. STEINHOFF

Easter Lily      Joan Marie Steinhoff, 68, died July 30, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of Burlington. She was born June 11, 1946, in Kenosha, to Darewood W. and Blanche M. Steinhoff. She was educated in the Kenosha school system, graduating in 1964. She returned to school in 1980, at Gateway Technical College and was awarded an associate degree in nursing. She practiced as a Registered Nurse in various area hospitals, nursing homes and clinics since 1983. She continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Alverno College.

She had a passion for health and healing and pursued a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine, Racine, graduating in 2003. In 2002 she had the opportunity to study at the International Training Center in Guangzhou, China, and was certified in Advanced Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She opened her own practice, Tri-County Integrated Health System, LLC, where she practiced Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in Waterford, closing her practice due to health issues in 2013. This practice allowed Joan to combine the best of Western and Chinese medicine to the benefits of her patients.

She leaves behind her wonderful patients and was frequently heard saying “she had the best patients in the world.”

On March 14, 1964, she married Leo G. (Buddy) Bonn, Jr. at St. George Church in Kenosha. They had three daughters. He preceded her in death in December 2004. On Jan. 15, 2008, she married Louis A. Cervantes in Key West, Fla., later divorcing in June 2010.

Over the years, Joan enjoyed being a member of Sweet Adeline’s, a Girl Scout leader and a charter member and treasurer of the Sharing Center in Kenosha County. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling. She loved to be the “mad scientist in the basement” where she worked on many projects.

Joan leaves behind friends and family members; especially Louis; her daughter, Jacqueline (Dan) Culver, Hammond, Ind.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her wonderful German Shepherd, Jonah.

Joan wishes to acknowledge her friends, Dan and Mary, who stood by her through thick and thin.

Per Joan’s wishes there will be no wake or funeral. Inurnment of remains will be at Sunset Ridge Cemetery, Kenosha. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a future date. Memorials should be made to Lakeland Animal Shelter in Walworth County.

Lastly, a special note of appreciation to the medical staff of the Emergency Department and ICU that cared for Joan during her recent illness at Memorial Hospital of Burlington, and the rescue squad/police personnel serving Waterford that came to her aid; and to the Hartmann Family, especially Jordan, for the care of Jonah and the assistance with lawn care.

Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.

  1. Joanie;

    Words alone cannot describe the sense of loss I feel at your passing. I remember all the good and not so good times we shared and your determination to keep going when others would have given up. I always said you would have made a damn good MARINE. We also had a few good laughs and did some pretty amazing things along the way. The most prominent being riding the Tail of the Dragon 3 times!! I remember the time you thought I had a stain on a shirt and you worked so hard to get it out only to realize that it was not a stain but part of the shirt design. Or when you played ball with Tyee, (our German Shepherd) and how he would eventually drop the ball and make you go get it. We both had a good laugh over those and other things. Joanie, we have finally come to that fork in the road and I know you must be on your way. But before you go I wanted to say thank you for sharing those moments and the road with me. May the wind always be at your back on your journey through the undiscovered country.
