Roundabout work at highways 20/75 now through late fall

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has begun a reconstruction project at the intersection of highways 20 and 75 in the Town of Dover, Racine County.

The project began Thursday, Aug. 7, and will last until late fall. The intersection is now closed to thru traffic since the project limits extend 1,500 feet on each leg of the intersection. Businesses at the intersection will remain accessible.

The work consists of the construction of a roundabout, along with new storm sewers and signage.

According to a WisDOT media release, the crash rate at the highways 20/75 intersection is above the state average and 60 percent of these accidents involve an injury. Recent intersection improvements have not reduced the crash rate.

Construction of a roundabout will reduce injury accidents and allow for efficient traffic flow, according to the release.

Traffic impacts/detours

• Highway 20 will be restricted to local traffic between County N and Highway 45. Traffic will be routed to County N, County A and Highway 45

• Highway 75 will be restricted to local traffic between Highway 20 and County A. Motorists are asked to follow the Highway 20 detour.

WisDOT is asking drivers to be courteous and careful when driving near the work zone.
