JOHN R. HAAS

Easter Lily      John Raymond Haas, 82, Burlington, died Sept. 3, 2014, at Aurora St. Luke’s in Milwaukee.

He was born Aug. 17, 1932, to the late Raymond and Esther (Dobroth) Haas in Burlington. It was at Cross Lutheran Church where he was baptized into and confirmed in Christ and where his early Christian education began.

He attended schools in Burlington and was known to hang out in front of the Ford garage while the other kindergarten children were attending classes. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1950, after receiving the honor of being quarterback for the football team, where he acquired his love for sports.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Following in his father’s footsteps, he delivered mail in the city of Burlington for 37 years.

In January of 1954, he married Shirley Beller. She preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1989. In October of 1997, he married Annette Newton.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. He loved all sports and was an avid Brewers, Packers and Badgers fan. He umpired in the Burlington area for 27 years for both the slow-pitch and Little Leagues games. He loved nature and especially enjoyed watching the sandhill cranes.

Survivors include his wife; children, Timothy Haas and Jodi (Joseph) Mara; stepsons, Paul (Cynthia) Newton, Jonathan (Tara) Newton and David (Jane) Newton; granddaughter, Jamie; step-grandchildren, Justin (Sarah), Brent (Angelica), Derek, Victoria, Ernesto, Christian, Emma and Jacob; step-great-grandchildren, Ethan, Tristin, Emily, Aeirianna and Aiden; a sister, Carole Kveen; sisters-in-law, Harriet Haas and Carol Haas; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Claire ‘Bud’ and Don.

Visitation is Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2-3:45 p.m., with funeral services at 4 p.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church. The Rev. Rob Bolling will officiate. Burial will follow services at St. Charles Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
