RAYMOND MOYER

Easter Lily      Raymond Moyer, 88, Rochester, died Sept. 27, 2014, at Wisconsin Veterans Home – Boland Hall in Union Grove.

He was born in Milwaukee on March 27, 1926, to the late Raymond and Rose (Helfenstein) Moyer. He spent his early life in Milwaukee, moving to Rochester at age 14 where he graduated from the Ag School in 1944.

He served in the U.S. Army from June 1944 to June 1946 as part of the Military Police in Occupied Germany.

On May 22, 1948, he married Jean Nelson. Following marriage they made their home in Rochester, where they spent their entire married life.

Ray was a businessman. He owned Moyer Motor Co. Garage for many years. At age 39 he went to work for Northwestern Mutual Life Ins. Co. He was a member of Rochester Congregational Church and Burlington Masonic Lodge #28. He kept himself busy doing various volunteer jobs. He was on the Waterford High School and Grade School Board of Education, Racine County Board for 12 years, member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1982-1984, Rochester Village Marshal for 18 years, member of Rochester Volunteer Fire Dept., Racine County Board of Adjustments and Board of Wisconsin Conservation Corps NLC for 6 years. He always participated in the Memorial Day parade or any other activity going on in Rochester. They called him “Mr. Rochester.”

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Cary Moyer; sisters-in-law, Barbara Moyer, Mavis Moyer, Lila Krueger; nieces and nephews; many other relatives and wonderful friends.

He was further preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Moyer and Leonard Moyer.

Memorials are suggested to Rochester First Congregational Church or the Rochester Library.

Services are Thursday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. at Rochester First Congregational Church with the Rev. Paul Ray officiating. Visitation is at church on Oct. 2, from 3-5 p.m. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery.
