Benjamin Wayne Schwarten, 55, Burlington, died unexpectedly at his home on Sept. 25, 2014.
Benji was born April 4, 1959, in Burlington, to Gerald and Nancy Schwarten.
On June 30, 2001, he married Kelly L. Carlson. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington, where they had one daughter.
He was retired from Illinois Bell. He enjoyed traveling, reading and fixing cars. After retirement he found great enjoyment in cooking and researching favorite old family recipes and cookbooks. He remained a kid at heart through life.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Katelynn; his beloved pet macaw, Dom; his father, Gerald (Jean) Schwarten; brother, Jon (Lisa) Schwarten; sisters, Jane Abbiss, Ruth (Scott) Collins and Heidi (Paula) Schwarten; nieces and nephews, along with many other relatives and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Schwarten; and brothers, Tim and David Schwarten.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 2, from 3 p.m., until time of services at 4:30 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. The Rev. Jonathan Piek will officiate.
