Great Pumpkin Festival plans pumpkin chuckin’

Expect the squash to soar Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a new contest, Pumpkin Chuckin, to its annual Great Pumpkin Festival.

Students and backyard engineers are welcome to build trebuchets, catapults and slingshots and compete to see who can launch an 8- to 10-pound pumpkin the furthest.

The Chamber hopes by adding this event to the annual fest, area students will be introduced, in a fun way, to STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) based studies.

The new PC contest is made possible this year thanks to sponsor help from Subway

But wait, there’s more.

Besides pumpkin chuckin,’ swing by the festival for a chili cook-off, pumpkin baking contest, costume contest for all ages, pie auction, kids games and activities, vendors, food, beer, hay rides and more.

The Great Pumpkin Festival will be held at the Racine County Fairgrounds on Highway 11 in Union Grove from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, on Oct 25.
