By a unanimous vote, the School Board approved the final 2014-15 budget and tax levy for the Burlington Area School District Monday night.

A preliminary levy and budget were approved at the BASD annual meeting in August. However, the numbers were adjusted this month with final numbers for enrollment and state aid.

The final levy is set at $20.58 million, roughly $84,000 less than expected. Burlington ended up with a slightly higher enrollment than predicted. The anticipated enrollment was 3,235 students, and BASD ended up with 3,300.

The budget also adjusted various line items because of the student counts. State aid went up about $230,000 from last year, while the property tax hike is smaller than anticipated.

The levy drop means the increase in taxes is 1.44 percent. The equalized tax rate is now $11.06 per $1,000 of property value, down from $11.36 as anticipated at the August annual meeting.

All but one member of the board was present for the vote, with Roger Koldeway not in attendance.

Todd Terry, Larry Anderson, Rosanne Hahn, Bill Campbell, Jim Bousman and Phil Ketterhagen voted yes.
