MARIANNE R. ALBY

Marianne R. Alby, age 80, died peacefully at her home on Nov. 6, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Jan. 31, 1934, in Milwaukee, to the late Nicholas and Veronica (Plasz) Meyers. She was very proud of her paternal ancestry and being the fourth great-granddaughter of Menominee Indian “Queen Marinette” for whom the city and county of Marinette, Wisconsin were named.

She was also known as “Bummer,” a nickname from a grandson. Marianne instituted her own “brand” with the theme of hearts many years ago. Her love of hearts was reflected in her architecture, décor, jewelry and is a symbol of her huge heart and love for family and friends.

She graduated from Waterford High School and was a longtime resident of Waterford, and Duck Key, Fla.

She married her late husband, Ron Alby, on Feb. 29, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, and they started Alby Materials, Inc. in Waterford. She was very active in the gravel pit and concrete business. She was also involved in her community as Boy Scout leader and member of American Legion.

She was a very talented porcelain doll artist, seamstress and an excellent poker and cribbage player.

Memories of Marianne will always be cherished by her surviving children; Cyndy (Barry) Lindau, Karin (Keith) Magee, Terry (Judy Gambrel), Randy (Brenda Weber); daughter-in-law Kirstin Alby; grandchildren, Barry II, Jake (April), Kyle (Elva), James (Stefanie), Ryan (Brittany Struve), Christopher (Holly Koleno), Taylor (Sam Kafura), Libby, Abby (Alex); seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her son, Paul; ex-husband Jerry Watts; brothers, Nicholas, Carl and Ken.

A “Pow Wow” celebrating Marianne’s life is Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Cotton Exchange, Waterford. Visitation is from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with a special service from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by Marianne’s “last party” starting at 7 p.m., with fellowship, a meal and good cheer. Feel free to wear your favorite Packers attire. Integrity Funeral Home, Waterford, is serving the family.

Memorials to the Waterford Public Library and Waterford Fire Department would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
