Registrations up for Turkey Trot 5K

Town Bank’s Turkey Trot, held each year on Thanksgiving Day in Burlington, continues to grow in popularity, as evidenced by this year’s registration rate – up 20 percent over 2013’s race, according to race organizers.

This fourth annual 5K could have a record-breaking 800-plus participants on its scenic course around the Fox River in Burlington.

New this year, besides a slight alteration in the course’s start, is the race’s title sponsor, now Town Bank, which recently purchased Talmer Bank. The race also offers a team option this year, with the combined times of the top three finishers on each team determining place and awards.

Participants are invited to bring non-perishable food items to donate to Love Inc.’s Food Pantry, the non-profit charitable partner of the Turkey Trot. All participants who bring donations will be entered in a raffle (one ticket per food item, with a maximum of 10 tickets) at the end of the race for prizes such as homemade pies, certificates for turkeys and more.

“Any holiday run, but especially a Turkey Day run, draws in a diverse group of runners,” says Chris Ponteri, Race Director. “We’ll see many participants who only race on Thanksgiving Day. Many families come out and participate together, starting out their holiday with the Turkey Trot.”

The race day events start with packet pick-up beginning at 7 a.m. Race day registration is also available beginning at 7 a.m. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Veterans Terrace, with the post-race raffle and awards ceremony following at 9:30 a.m.

All race participants will receive a T-shirt and goody bag. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each race, as well as the top age group finishers. A special Middle-of-the-Pack award will be given to the participant who finishes in the middle of the pack.

Online registration continues until midnight on Nov. 25. Registration is $30 from now until Nov. 25 and $35 on race day. More information can be found at www.runthanksgiving.com.
