Following a 3-1 final vote, Grant Strobel was appointed to the Waterford Graded School Board Nov. 20, filling a vacancy created in September when Bob Kastengren resigned due to health issues.

Strobel is one of four candidates who sought to replace Kastengren. The board position runs to April 2015, when voters will elect a permanent member to the position.

Strobel said he plans to seek election in April.

The other candidates who offered letters of interest and answered questions from the board Nov. 20 are residents Dan Bowser, George McNair and Dan Walker.

Each answered a series of questions posed by the board, including their background, educational philosophy and priorities if elected, view of the district’s strengths and weaknesses, and interest in running for election in April.

Strosel’s answers and background ultimately garnered him three of the four members’ votes, with Doug Schwartz, Dawn Bleimehl and Tom Hoffman voting yes; Dan Jensen voted no.

  1. Shame on them. The role and purpose of school boards is to have outside regular citizen oversight of the district, not stack the board with teachers and spouses of teachers who are also teachers!!!!!!
