ELVIN FINLEY

Easter Lily      Elvin ‘Al’ Finley, 83, Burlington, died peacefully on Nov. 23, 2014.

He was born in Carlisle, Pa., on Jan. 12, 1931, to the late Wright and Irene Finley, the oldest of five.

In 1958 he married Carolyn Remitz and moved to West Allis, where they had four children. In 1970 the family moved to Homewood, Ill., residing there until Elvin retired from General Electric in 1992. Thereafter, they enjoyed their home on Browns Lake in Burlington.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, then graduated from Pennsylvania State University. After graduation, he found his passion in engineering and worked at General Electric as a field engineer for 35 years. As a father and a husband, Elvin enjoyed both playing and watching sports throughout his life, focusing on football, basketball and golf. He also loved being with his family at the beach, barbecuing for family gatherings and seeing the grandkids grow up.

Survivors include his wife of over 55 years; children, Joan, Roger (Rita), Gary (Karla), and Beverly, all suburban Chicago; grandchildren, Ryan, Scott, Daniel, Clara and Juliana. Elvin was dedicated to his family and will be missed by many.

Funeral services are Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington. Visitation is Nov. 29, at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery with a luncheon to follow for family and friends.
