Pro Wrestling event coming to Wilmot High School Dec. 13

Night of entertainment will benefit Wilmot boys basketball program

Hosting wrestling meets certainly isn’t anything new at Wilmot High School.

All you need to do is stop by the gym during the winter months to see area student-athletes getting after it on the mat.

But for one night, a wrestling mat will be replaced by a ring and turnbuckles, as Wilmot welcomes an area professional wrestling organization for an evening of fun and entertainment.

SPORT CHECK LOGO webThe roster of Purely Obsessed Wrestling World (POWW) Entertainment, which is based in northern Illinois, will invade the Wilmot gym Saturday night, Dect. 13, for a 7 p.m. fund-raiser that will benefit the Wilmot boys basketball program.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Ringside seats are $15 and general admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased at the school, from any Wilmot player or the night of the event.

It’s sure to be a fun night, Wilmot coach Jake Erbentraut said.

“I’m really excited,” he said. “We haven’t, nor has a school in this area, ever had an event like this.

“In trying to come up with a new idea for a fundraiser, varsity assistant coach Dan Truttschel came up with this idea, and I think it will be a great event for the program, the school and the community.”

Because the event has never been tried before, Erbentraut said he’s not sure what to expect when the bell rings for the first match.

But he is certain those who come out will not only have a great time, but also will put their hard-earned money to good use.

“I do know that it will be entertaining for the entire family, and there can be an assurance that coming out to this event will go to a great cause in supporting players in the basketball program at Wilmot,” he said.

The excitement for the event goes both ways, as the POWW roster can’t wait to come to Wilmot and put on a show, company owner Jimmy Blaze said.

“The roster is amped to perform for the fans of Wilmot and the surrounding areas,” Blaze said. “We have done many fund-raisers, but this will top it to be in that auditorium of 3,000 capacity.

“With the show lineup and women who have been on WWE as recently as this past ‘Survivor Series,’ the building is sure to have electricity running through it.”

Concessions also will be available during the show, and there will be both a 50-50 and other raffles. Visit www.powwentertainment.com for more information about the wrestling company and the roster who will perform Dec. 13.
