Christmas in the Barn on Christmas Eve

For the 46th consecutive year, English Settlement United Methodist Church and the Squire family will host a “Christmas in the Barn” program on Christmas Eve, Wedneday, Dec. 24.

John and Cindy Squire’s farm – and barn – will be home to the live nativity, with nine services running from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Members of the church are angels, shepherds, wise men and innkeepers through the service, during which scripture is read to the audience members – who get to sit on straw bales and join in singing Christmas carols.

A special solo will also be sung by church members, and a different family will portray Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus at each service. There have been more than 250 babies used in the services over the years.

“The Live Nativity brings such joy to many families from all areas,” said Judy Bratz, who works with the church and the program. “We have a lot of families that help with the service and it gives us great joy knowing that we are bringing them the true meaning of Christmas.”

Hot cocoa, coffee and Christmas cookies will be served. There is no cost.

The Squire Farm is on 26715 Church Road. Take Highway 20 to Highway A (west of Highway N) and then south on Church Road and west to the farm.
