One Texas couple had perhaps the most divided of loyalties in Green Bay Sunday.
Randy and Jennifer Blakemore, who live in Fort Worth, flew up for the playoff game. However, Randy was decked out in Dallas Cowboys’ gear and Jennifer in Green Bay Packers’ colors.
Jennifer said she grew up in a football family, and she decided to root for the team the Cowboys were playing one day – the Packers.
“I think I was the ornery child with my father,” she said.
Randy, meanwhile, said the couple makes it work.
“It’s tough, but we work through it,” Randy said. “It’s all right in the household – until the playoffs start.”
The weather was a bit of a shock, though.
“I’ve never experienced anything so cold in my life,” Jennifer said.
Cowboys’ fans in enemy territory
There were numerous Dallas Cowboys’ fans who made the trip up to Green Bay.
One group, according to Watertown Daily Times design coordinator Mark Heiden, had to turn around and drive back down to Texas Sunday night because they had to be at work at 8 a.m. They made it back around 7 a.m. Monday morning.
But on a more local scale, Scott Johnson of East Troy was at the game, proud to be wearing the navy, silver and white of Dallas.
“It’s awesome,” said Johnson, who refused to be intimidated by the green-and-gold-decked-out Packer faithful.
“No, never,” he said.
Say what?
In discussing his injured calf after the game, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers said the organization received numerous ideas and tips.
“I kind of wish at some point we could release some of the emails and messages we got,” said Rodgers with a smile. “They were all in good faith there.”
Rodgers pointed out that he knew going into the game that he wouldn’t be 100 percent at any time.
“I gotta give credit to our training staff,” he added. “My acupuncturist as well.”
The quarterback also fielded a question of whether he had to get up during the night to treat his injury.
He said no.
“I don’t know if I’d go for that,” Rodgers said. “I enjoy my sleep a little like a kid.”
“New York Bozo”
Trending during the game was an audible Rodgers called – “New York Bozo.” When asked about it in the press conference, Rodgers sounded innocently coy.
“You guys heard that?” asked Rodgers, who declined to give specifics and essentially said it meant nothing.
On Twitter, though, speculation ranged from Rodgers’ mistakenly harassing New Jersey (not New York) governor and Cowboys’ fan Chris Christie to it being a fullback option play.
No Romo, no way
A group of Waterford Union High School graduates made the trip up to Lambeau Field Sunday – and none of them were rooting for the hometown Burlington boy.
David Serkowski, Andy Sterling, Cody Varga and Miguel Ortiz all made the trip up, but Serkowski voiced the opinions for the group.
“Well, I kinda hope we beat the snot out of them,” Serkowski said before the game. “I mean, nothing personal, but it’s a Packer thing.”
