DANIEL J. KANALY

Easter Lily      Daniel J. Kanaly, 94, died Jan. 26, 2015, at Wisconsin Veterans Home, Boland Hall, Union Grove.

He was born in Marengo, Ill., on Jan. 11, 1921, to the late Joseph and Mabel (Gustafson) Kanaly. He spent his early life in Marengo.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he served in North Africa and Italy.

On Dec. 28, 1955, he married Cora Wilkins at Harmony United Church of Christ in Harmony. They lived in Illinois, Arizona and Arkansas before moving to Burlington in 2008. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2009.

He worked at Arnold Engineering and then worked as a supervisor with Union Special in Huntley, Ill., until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Burlington. They loved traveling and camping and he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading.

Survivors include his children, Donna (Donald Jr.) Fescenmeyer, Burlington, Eileen (Jerry) Hasselwander, Oklahoma City, Okla., Karen (Dennis) Lappin, Poplar Grove, Ill.; grandchildren, Eric, Leif (Stephanie Geisler) and Britt Fescenmeyer, Daniel, George and Tim (Breta) Forgey, Mary (Steve) Lambson, Jamie (Kat) Lappin and Shawn (Breane Wilson) Lappin; great-grandchildren, Keeley, Christian, McKenna, Lucas and Jacob; sister, Mary Wrona, Columbia, S.C.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his brother, Charles (Lois) Kanaly; brother-in-law, Ray Wrona; and niece, Hazel.

Memorials to the Burlington Library are suggested by the family.

The family would like to give special thanks to Curtis Johnson and the rest of the staff at Boland Hall for their wonderful care.

Public visitation for Daniel is Thursday, Jan. 29, at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, from noon-3 p.m., with full military honors to follow. Burial will be private.
