It will be a busy weekend for a local social service agency March 6-8.

Not only will Love Inc. hold its annual Friday Night Lights fundraiser March 6 starting at 5 p.m., but on the Sunday following, a benefit concert will be held starting at 2 p.m.

Both events will be held at Veterans Terrace in Burlington.

“It’s very exciting,” “It’s neat to see them reaching out to us,” Love’s Executive Director Bill Schoessling said.

Friday Night Lights

Schoessling isn’t sure of the exact number of Friday Night Lights events that have been held, but he guessed about 15.

The event is the organization’s largest single fundraiser each year, and offers everything from good food to silent auctions to raffles and live auctions.

“It’s a low-key type evening,” Schoessling said. “Everyone goes just to have a great time.”

This year’s theme is Las Vegas, and Schoessling confirmed that “Elvis” would be a special guest.

Tickets are $30 each or $400 for a reserved table of 10. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the live auction at 7:30 p.m.

Benefit concert

For the second time in the last three years, the Miss Burlington Area ChocolateFest pageant and current titleholder will hold a benefit concert with all proceeds going to Love Inc.

Pageant Director Sue Johnson said it wasn’t difficult to get people to perform.

“The ones who did it last time … were grateful to do it again,” she said. “And the ones going to Miss Wisconsin are grateful to get a chance to do their talents.”

On the performance list is Miss BAC 2015 Alexandria Knight, the Burlington High School A Capella Choir, Miss Wisconsin 2008 Briana Lipor, Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen Elise O’Connell, oboe player Lois Jones, “The Flute Lady” Su Ash Gustafson, several former Miss Burlington Area ChocolateFest winners and several current pageant title holders – including the recently crowned Miss Racine Alyssa Bohm and Miss Southern Wisconsin Raquel Bruening.

Johnson said she’s been asked who the potential audience for the benefit was. Her answer? Everyone.

“We have a very nice program,” she said. “This is a program anyone can come to. It’s just down-home, local fun.”

Tickets are $10, and available by calling Johnson at (262) 534-3651, or at the door. All proceeds will go to Love Inc.’s community education.
