GEORGE E. ENGELHARDT

Easter Lily      George Eldon Engelhardt, also known as Eldon Engelhardt, a.k.a. the farmer, died March 2, 2015.

He was born May 1, 1926, to the late George J. and Lavina (Overson) Engelhardt in the house he grew up in and lived all his life, in Brighton Township.

In his early years he attended Tigh School and then graduated 8th grade from St. John’s Lutheran School. He was a 1943 graduate of Burlington High School. He was baptized and confirmed at St John’s Lutheran Church, Burlington.

On June 12, 1952, he married Maria Dorothy Carlson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Union Grove. He started farming with his father and continued on the family farm. He was also a mail carrier for Kansasville Post Office, worked as a janitor at the Bong Air Force Base and then worked for and retired from American Motors Corporation (Chrysler). He then proceeded to get his chauffeur’s license and drove for Henningfield Bus Service on charter and as a school bus driver. During his lifetime he was also a volunteer fireman for the Kansasville Fire Department for 31 years and a local DeKalb dealer. During his life he enjoyed roller-skating and spending time with his family, as well as his many, many friends.

Survivors include his wife, (Carlson) Engelhardt; sons, George F. (Mary Ann) Engelhardt, Jaye E. (Sandra) Engelhardt and Bruce W. (Denise) Engelhardt; grandchildren, Jacqueline Engelhardt, Isabelle Johnson, Amber Engelhardt Sherbrook (James Catalano), Jaye Jr. (Hope) Engelhardt, Jonathan (Geri) Kirkham, Kenneth (Brittany) Engelhardt, Cheri (Josh) Easton, Jeremy Engelhardt, Shawna Engelhardt, Josh Engelhardt and Juliana Engelhardt; great-grandchildren, Aiden Michael Kirkman, Felicity Hope Engelhardt, Anthony Edward Catalano, Henry James Easton and Dax Eldon Engelhardt; cousins; nieces; nephews and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his sister, Lois (Art) Stratton.

Funeral services are Friday, March 6, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Union Grove, with the Rev. David Ramirez officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m., in Burlington Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on March 6 at church from 9-10:45 a.m. Polnasek Daniels Funeral Home, Union Grove, is serving the family.
