ANTOINETTE J. MANGOLD

Easter Lily  Antoinette J. Mangold, 88, St. John, Ind., formerly Burlington, died peacefully in Munster, Ind., on Feb. 28, 2015.

She was born in Rock Island, Ill., on Dec. 3, 1926, to the late Herman and Elizabeth (Boden) Bredar. She spent her early life in Rock Island where she graduated from St. Joseph High School.

On April 3, 1948, she married Dr. Anthony J. Mangold. Following marriage they made their home in Park Ridge, Ill., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., before settling in St. John. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2011.

She worked as a nurse and as a member of the United States Cadet Nursing Corps. She received her Registered Nursing degree from St. Anthony’s Hospital School of Nursing in Rock Island, Ill. After working in several nursing positions she became the head nurse of the newborn nursery at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago. She loved swimming, painting, playing piano, knitting and being with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Mark Mangold, Omaha, Neb., and Valerie (Rick) Solan, St. John, Ind.; grandchildren, Shane Mangold and Jonathan, Teryn and Lindsey Solan; siblings, Mauritia Theus and Herman (Norma) Bredar Jr.; sister-in-law, Irene Mangold; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her grandson, Colin Mangold; brothers, Bernard (Emily) Bredar, Vincent (Theresa) Bredar, Robert Bredar; sisters, Charlotte (Nick) Welch, Mary Agnes (Walt) O’Malley; in-laws, Harry Theus, Bill Mangold, Etta (Al) VandeSand, Ramona (Elmer) Koldeway and Margaret Mangold.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association of your choice are suggested.

The family would like to thank Eileen and John Brown for their care and compassion to the family.

Services are Friday, March 13, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. Yamid Blanco presiding. Visitation is at the church on March 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
