Village schedules meeting for Fox River drawdown issues

Riparian owners and all interested parties in the area are encouraged to attend a public informational meeting regarding applications by the Racine County Farm Drainage District for permits impacting the Fox River.

The meeting will be held Monday, March 23, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the Waterford Village Hall, 123 N. River St., Waterford.

Representatives from the state Department of Natural Resources, the drainage district, and Racine County Public Works will be present to offer a brief overview of the permits being requested, and to respond to questions and concerns.

The permits in question may result in a permanent annual drawdown of the Fox River, from Oct. 1 to March 1, resulting in lower water levels similar to the current level.

Due to questions and concerns received in recent months, the DNR was asked by the Village to conduct this meeting to educate the public about the permits being requested and explain to people how to provide their input before the DNR makes a decision about the permits.

“This may be your only opportunity for input to the decision-making process prior to the DNR completing their review of the permit,” the Village notes in a letter distributed March 4.

For questions or concerns about the meeting, contact Village Administrator, Rebecca Ewald, at [email protected] or (262) 534-7912.
