VIOLET F. SCHMIDT

Easter Lily      Violet F. Schmidt, 95, Burlington, died March 16, 2015, at Lakeland Health Care Center, Elkhorn.

She was born in Corlis, Wis., on May 21, 1919, to the late Leopold and Ethelyn (Rose) Binstock. She spent her early life in Sturtevant where she graduated from Horlick High School, as the class valedictorian in 1937.

She married the love of her life, Harold Schmidt, in 1937. Although their time together was short, she dedicated her life to homemaking, loving to cook and bake for all her family and friends. She was also an avid fisherwoman, loving the time she spent ‘up North’ with family and friends. He preceded her in death in 1962.

She was further preceded in death by her sisters; Virginia Palmer and Dorothy Nelson, along with many dear in-laws and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith (Richard Imrie), and their daughters, Laurie, Kristin and Trisha (Chad Heiligenthal) and her great-grandchildren, Seth and Keegan Heiligenthal and Quinn Imrie, all Burlington; and daughter, Susan (Larry Fell), Burlington, and their sons, Adam (fiancée Sarah Kinser), Madison, and Tyler of Glendale, Colo.; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

She strongly believed that her family was the greatest gift granted to her, and she dedicated her life to nurturing this gift, not only with her own dear family, but by proudly sharing with Harold in being the foster parents to many children throughout Racine County in the 1940s and 50s. Her life was marked with frequent happiness and occasional sorrow and she always found family and dear friends to be her major source of direction and joy. Her dedication to family and friends exemplified the qualities of selflessness and compassion that made Violet the beloved wife, mother and grandmother that she was.

She also had a life filled with many dear friends who revealed to her the true value of friendship as they buoyed her spirit with laughter, support and constancy; especially remembering her dear second ‘daughter,’ Kay Weithaus.

Lastly, God gave Violet the best gift of all – a deep faith that lent her the courage and strength to face life’s trials and struggles. As Violet approached God’s grace during her final few weeks, she found her heart overfilled with appreciation for the many blessings and gifts she had received from Him during her life. She was a faithful member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church.

Services for Violet will be Thursday, March 19, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church at 6 p.m., with the Rev. Jason Lavann presiding. Visitation will be at church on March 19, from 4-5:45 p.m. A family burial will be held. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is serving the family.
