ROBERT W. WRIXTON SR.


Robert W. Wrixton Sr., 94, Burlington, died Dec. 31, 2011, at East Troy Manor.

He was born Dec. 7, 1917, to the late Walter Philip John and Anne (Wyatt) Wrixton in Les Petites Fontaines on the Isle of Guernsey.

He immigrated to the United States in 1919 and spent his early life in Racine where he graduated from Horlick High School.

On Nov. 15, 1947, he married Cornelia Philadelphia Hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Racine. They resided in Racine moving to Burlington in 1971.

He was a lithographer working at the Western Publishing Co. in Racine for 42 years. He was a member of St. John’s the Divine Church in Burlington, the Masonic Temple, the American Legion, and the VFW.

He was very proud to serve in the U.S Army with 654th engineering corps. He fought during World War II participating in the Invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge/Ardennes, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with a Silver Battle Star,  4 Bronze Stars, 1 Gold Star, 4 Overseas Bars, 1 Service Stripe and the Good Conduct Medal, achieving rank of Sergeant. His family was his pride and joy. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, and was a snowbird wintering in Florida.

Survivors include his loving wife Cornelia ‘Delphia,’ and children, Susan (Thomas) Hallingstad, Burlington, Robert Jr. (Leslie) Wrixton, Racine, Nancy (Michael) Newbury, Burlington; grandchildren, Derek (Alma) Hallingstad, Lauri (Ron) Bailey, Kelly Wrixton, Sean Newbury; great-grandchildren, Zach Hallingstad, Madeline Bailey,  Joshua Bailey, Clark Hallingstad; sister-in-law, Rose Wrixton, Racine; brother-in-law, Frank (Harriet) Hall, Whitewater; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by siblings, Thomas, Dan, Wallace (Beth) Wrixton and Maude (Ken) Olson.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Jan. 3, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Burlington, with the Rev. Joanne Skidmore officiating. Private Interment was at West Lawn Memorial Park, Racine. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, assisted the family.

Memorials to St. John the Divine Episcopal Church have been suggested by the family.
