Trustee Jerry Filut will return to his position on the Waterford Village Board following a vote recount conducted April 14.

The final official vote tally for the April 7 election shows Filut with 445 votes, two more than challenger Judy Spencer, a former board trustee.

Two other incumbents also won re-election to their trustee positions on the Village Board: Tom Christensen, 587 votes; Tamara Pollnow, 508.

Village Clerk Carrie Orlovsky spent most of Tuesday in Racine for the recount. “It was a good experience,” she said. “I actually enjoyed seeing the process and going through it.”

The same total of 1,009 votes cast on election night was confirmed in the recount, plus an additional absentee ballot that arrived Friday, for a total ballot count of 1,010.

During the manual review of ballots in the recount, the results of one absentee ballot were changed. The voter had voted in pencil, and then erased the original choices and made others.

That caused the machine to record the ballot as an “over vote” with too many choices marked.

In the manual review, it was obvious which candidates the voter intended, and the correction was made, said Orlovsky.

Tuesday afternoon, Spencer said she wants the people who encouraged her to run to know she is appreciative of their dedicated support.

“God puts us where he wants us to be. It’s not the end of the world,” said Spencer. “I wish the board the best.”

Incumbent Town Board Supervisor Lisa Jeschke (547 votes) said Monday that she will not seek a recount. Unofficial tallies on election night show Jeschke losing her board position to former supervisor Dale Gauerke by seven votes (554).

“I’m moving on,” Jeschke said. “I’m just ready for the next step, or next task.”

Incumbent Town Supervisor Nick Draskovich (586) will return to office.
