Westosha seniors welcome Union Grove

With the intent of offering a greater array of classes and services to older adults, Union Grove officials are exploring the possibility of strengthening the village’s partnership with the Westosha Senior Center organization.

Westosha staffers have been meeting with members of the Union Grove Village Board in recent months to explore a number of possibilities, including bringing some of the group’s offerings to a facility in Union Grove.

In most cases, Union Grove area seniors currently need to travel to Westosha’s Bristol-based facility at 19200 93rd St. to partake in the organization’s range of health and wellness and personal enrichment classes.

As a precursor to exploring an increased partnership, Union Grove area seniors were issued a survey. Fifty-one responses were returned — a figure deemed too low by village and Westosha representatives for making any definitive decisions.

The Union Grove Village Board on March 23 decided not to take any action on the village’s future relationship with Westosha, opting instead to throw the issue back to members of the Recreation Committee for further deliberation and possible recommendations on moving forward.

“I want to see as many people joining your organization as possible,” Village President Mike Aimone said to the several Westosha leaders in attendance at the recent board meeting. “I think we need to continue our partnership.”

As future decisions wait in the wings, Aimone suggested increasing outreach so residents in Union Grove and the towns of Raymond and Yorkville are aware of what the organization has available to the area’s senior adult population.

“We’ll do what we can to help increase your numbers,” Aimone added.
