Janet Hellen Torhorst, 98, died March 30, 2015, in her home in Boynton Beach, Fla.
She was born in Jefferson, on Dec. 19, 1916, to the late Royal and Marion Hellen.
She graduated from UW–Whitewater with a teaching degree. She married Allan H. ‘Pat’ Torhorst on July 7, 1939, in Whitewater. They lived in Antioch, Ill., while she taught school in Sharon. After starting their family, they moved in 1942 to Kane Street in Burlington. In 1980 they became Florida residents, but continued to enjoy summers at their home on Browns Lake.
She was a lifelong avid Wisconsin sports fan. She enjoyed boating, playing cards and cooking for her family and many visitors. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Janet will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Hon. Allan B. ‘Pat’ (Penny) Torhorst, Burlington, Thomas N. (Jeanne) Torhorst D.V.M., Racine, Richard W. (Trae) Torhorst, Esq., Lake Geneva; her daughter, Nancy Torhorst, Montros, Colo.; and her son, William R. (Sue) Torhorst, Oregon, Wis. She will also be forever in the hearts of her 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was further preceded in death by her husband; sons, Robert Torhorst, James B. Torhorst M.D., and her granddaughter, Alyssa Torhorst.
She requested a private memorial service for the family to be held in Burlington. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Janet’s name.
