EILEEN H. BYERS

Easter Lily      Eileen Hegeman Byers, 79, Mount Pleasant, S.C., formerly Burlington, died April 25, 2015.

She was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Burlington, to the late Harry Hegeman and Jesse Edwards Hegeman. She graduated salutatorian from St. Mary’s High School. She traveled the country as an Air Force wife, where once, at Edwards AFB, she got to fly in a fighter jet and break the sound barrier. She eventually landed in San Diego, Calif., becoming a claims specialist with the Social Security Administration, where she received a number of awards for superior performance.

She loved baseball (her children joked often that she should be the manager of her beloved Padres), bicycling, and traveling. She enjoyed going home to the Hegeman family picnics, and also her ski trips to Colorado. She cherished the trip she made to France, where she got to tour the country on her bicycle. Her trip to Russia was also among her favorites. Over the years, she was a member of several cycling groups, and enjoyed her time as part of the Dolphins Spa & Breakfast Club, and being a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bonita (San Diego) California.

Survivors include her daughter Cindi Haviland and her husband, Chris, Mount Pleasant, S.C.; her son, David Byers and his wife Cathie, Massillon, Ohio; grandchildren, Lauren Haviland, Cameron Byers, Shawn Haviland, and Kylie Byers; great-grandson, Robert Cameron Byers II; sisters, Dorothy (Ed) Yanke, Rochester; Donna Dorn, Burlington, Ruth (Nelson) Seward Waupaca; sister-in-law, Katy Hegeman, Burlington.

She was further preceded in death by her brother, Glen Hegeman; sister, Betty Pieters; brothers-in-law, Dick Schumacher, Ralph Pieters and Ed Dorn.

Her Rite of Christian Burial is Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary-Dover Parish, 23211 Church Road, Kansasville. Arrangements were handled by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Senior Ministry Programs, c/o Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.

    SO VERY SORRY TO HEAR LOSING ANOTHER FIRST COUSIN. I REMEMBER ALL THE TIMES WE WOULD GET TOGETHER AT UNCLE HARRY AND AUNT JESS’S OR AT MY MOM AND DAD’S…RALPH AND FRAN HEGEMANN’S FARM AND WE WOULD ALWAYS HAVE SO MUCH FUN. MUCH LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO ALL EILEEN’S CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN.
