Wolverine baseball sweeps Zion-Benton

The Waterford High School baseball team improved to 12-2 overall with a May 2 sweep at home of non-conference opponent Zion-Benton (Ill.).

The Wolverines beat Zion-Benton 7-2 in the second game and 11-1 in the first game.

Waterford defeated Southern Lakes Conference foe Delavan-Darien 6-0 April 30 at Delavan and 7-2 April 28 at home.

The Wolverines are 7-1 in the SLC, and played Badger (6-5, 5-2 SLC) Tuesday at Lake Geneva and Thursday at home in SLC contests. Waterford plays East Troy (8-5) Monday in a non-conference game at home.

Tyler Terrian finished 7-for-8 the doubleheader against Zion-Benton. Terrian finished with four hits and three RBI in the second game and three hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the first game.

Dylan Malecki threw a complete game in the second game and improved to 6-0. Malecki allowed six hits and struck out five.

The Wolverines scored two runs in the third and four in the fifth. Ryan Dietrich and Matt Wezyk each tallied two hits.

Waterford scored four runs in the second inning and another five in the third in the first game. Chris Saltzmann and Ross Gunderson each finished with two hits. Trace Hunsucker, Saltzmann and Austin Werth each drove in two runs. The Wolverines finished with 11 hits.

Tony Ray threw six innings and Ryan Borchardt pitched in relief in the Wolverines’ 7-0 shutout of the Comets (4-6, 2-5 SLC). Waterford’s even offensive attack led to runs in five of the game’s seven innings.

Terrian finished with two hits and two RBI. Michael Schmidt finished with two hits.

Malecki threw a complete game and struck out eight April 28 in Waterford’s 7-2 victory. The Wolverines took over with three runs in the third. Ryan Kiedrowski finished with two hits for Waterford.
