The Burlington Area School District School Board issued just one final teacher non-renewal notification May 11 – and only a partial one at that.

Superintendent Peter Smet said Tuesday the non-renewal is for an art teaching position at Karcher Middle School.

There will be a reduction of hours at the position from 100 percent to 75 percent due to declining enrollment and lack of students to teach.

The personnel committee and the School Board also approved a handful of new resignations and retirements May 11.

Among them:

  • Long-time Burlington High School social studies teacher Bill Berkholtz – who is also the head golf coach – is retiring.
  • Fellow BHS social studies teacher Carl Guziewski is also retiring.
  • Resignations included Janet Carriveau – current administrative assistant to the principal – 4-year-old kindergarten teacher Rachel Crawford, and janitor Mark Hegemann.
