Brian Dankle and Justin Meseberg finished first and second and led the Burlington High School boys golf team to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the Southern Lakes Conference golf tournament at Evergreen Golf Course in Elkhorn.

The Demons finished with a four-man team total of 350 over 18 holes. Badger finished first and won the Southern Lakes Conference title with a score of 332.

Dankle repeated as the individual SLC champion with a score of 77. Dankle shot a 39 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine. He won the individual SLC title last season with a score of 78 at Waterford’s Rivermoor Golf Club.

Meseberg finished with a 79. He shot a 42 on the front nine and finished one over par (37) on the back.

Burlington Josh Ketterhagen carded a 96. Tyler Krupp finished at 98 and Danny Capozzi shot a 104.

In team scores, Waterford finished second (345) and Union Grove third (349). Westosha finished fifth (355), Wilmot sixth (363), Elkhorn seventh (375) and Delavan-Darien eighth (378).

Dankle and Meseberg each earned First Team All-SLC honors. Both finished the season with a conference scoring average of 77.25. Badger’s Luke Bourneuf and Jonathan Duggan and Westosha’s Zach Kramer also earned first team honors.

Ketterhagen finished with a conference scoring average of 93.25 and earned Honorable Mention All-SLC honors.

Up next for the Demons is a WIAA Division 1 regional meet May 26 at Beloit’s Krueger-Haskell Golf Course. Badger, Beloit Memorial, Delavan-Darien, Elkhorn, Janesville Craig, Janesville Parker, Milton and Union Grove are in Burlington’s regional bracket.

The top four teams in the regional, along with the top four individuals who are not on one of the top four teams, advance from the regional to the sectional meet. Burlington competes in the Sun Prairie sectional meet June 2 at The Oaks Golf Course in Sun Prairie.

Dankle shot a 73 and won individual medalist honors, and the Demons finished second by four strokes, May 15 at the Brighton Dale Invitational at Kansasville’s Brighton Dale Links.

“Great back nine,” Demons coach Bill Berkholtz said of Dankle’s performance. “He drove over the par 4 18th green, but was in a divot or he might have been four under on that nine.”

Dankle finished with a 73. Meseberg shot a 76, Ketterhagen an 80 and Capozzi finished at 97.

Waterford finished first in the team standings (322) and Burlington finished second (326). Union Grove finished third (332), Wilmot fourth (333), Westosha Central fifth (339) and Delavan-Darien sixth (359).

Meseberg won individual medalist honors with a 76, and the Demons finished third May 12 at Browns Lakes Golf Course in the fourth and final SLC Major of the season.

“He played very consistent, good golf,” Berkholtz said of Meseberg. “He is playing very well now, and that is good going into the tournaments.”

The Demons recorded a four-man team total of 337 for 18 holes. Badger won the meet (319), and won each of this season’s four SLC Majors.

Dankle shot a 78 and finished fourth. Ketterhagen shot an 89, Capozzi finished at 94 and Krupp carded a 95.
