CALVIN M. MATTHEWS

Easter Lily Calvin M. Matthews, Waterford, died June 14, 2015, at Waterford Senior Living. He was born Dec. 5, 1925, to the late Claude and Emma (Doeher) Matthews in Wacoma, Iowa.

He spent his early life in Washington, graduating from Shelton High School. After high school he married the love of his life Margaret (Schwinn) Matthews.

He served proudly in the U.S. Navy both in World War II and the Korean War. After his service he and Margaret moved to Waterford, where they raised their two children.

He was a member of the Teamsters local 200 as a truck driver, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 20, and a 50 year member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Waterford. He loved traveling in his motorhome, going up north to his cabin, snowmobiling, but most of all loved his family.

Survivors include his son, William (Roberta) Matthews, Burlington; daughters, Marilyn (James) Hart, Waterford, and Katherine Dobosz, Grand Junction, Colo.; grandchildren, Christopher (Bonnie) Matthews, Jennifer Hozeska, Brian (Lisa) Matthews, Lisa Kirchner, Erin (Joe) Gustmiedl, Andrew Hart, Kerry (Matthew) Bieneman; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was further preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and brothers, Mike and Bob.

Funeral services were June 18, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Waterford. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford, served the family.
