Two area women competed at the Miss Wisconsin pageant June 18-20 in Oshkosh.

While Miss Milwaukee Haylee Bande (from Waterford) and Miss Burlington Area ChocolateFest Alexandria Knight (from Burlington) didn’t make the cut to the top 11, both walked home with awards.

Bande earned the non-finalist talent award for her baton twirling. She performed to Wynonna Judd’s “Burning Love.” Bande also tied for the “Spirit of Miss America” award, along with Miss Coulee Region Tara Pizer, Miss Eastern Valley Chelsey Wasielewski and Miss Harbor Cities Jessica Johnson.

Knight, meanwhile, was a recipient of a $250 early childhood education award. Knight’s performance over the weekend earned praise from her pageant director, Sue Johnson.

“Ali did a wonderful job of representing the Burlington area in all phases of competition,” Johnson said. “She was very well prepared and remained focused on doing her very best.”

Former Miss Burlington Area ChocolateFest Mary O’Connell made the cut to the semifinals, but did not make the top five. The winner of the pageant was Miss New Berlin Rosalie Smith.
