Fire knocks family out of home

All residents got out of the home – which is a rental – without injury. City of Burlington Fire Chief Perry Howard said Tuesday night that damage from the fire was confined mostly to the room where it started, though there was some smoke and heat damage on the rest of the second floor. He estimated the damage at about $25,000, but said quick work by his department protected the first floor and that there didn’t appear to be much – if any – water damage. “They did a great job,” Howard said. The call for the fire came in at about 5:25 p.m. City of Burlington Fire Department personnel, as well as Burlington Area Rescue Squad personnel and the Town of Burlington Fire Department, responded to the fire. The fire, according to radio chatter on scene, was put out shortly before 6 p.m., but department personnel remained on scene until about 7:45 p.m. Howard would not comment on the source of the fire, saying only it was “under investigation,” and that the department would release details as soon as possible.
