Burlington man charged after drunken tirade with gun

A Town of Burlington man is charged with four different misdemeanor offenses after allegedly threatening a family member with a gun July 16.

Roger D. Morris, 69, is charged in Racine County Circuit Court with two counts of pointing a firearm at another person, one count of possession of a firearm while intoxicated and a disorderly conduct following the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, the Racine County Sheriff’s Department was sent to Bohner Drive at about 7 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun.

When the deputies arrived, Morris reportedly stepped out of the home when asked and deputies took him into custody. The deputy said he could smell intoxicants on the man.

Morris said an argument with a family member had escalated, but he had not pointed the gun at anyone.

Two different family members contend that the argument had been going on over the course of the day, according to the complaint. After the argument intensified, Morris allegedly threw the dinner that the family had been preparing into the front yard, went back inside and returned with a gun.

One family member said that he left to call 911 after Morris allegedly threatened to shoot him if he returned.

Another family member said that Morris allegedly threatened to “fill (the other) full of lead” if he returned, and also to empty the gun in her. Both provided a written statement.

A third witness – who had remained in the home with Morris – said one family member and Morris had been arguing for most of the day and it had gotten “very heated.”

The deputy that inspected the gun said it was loaded with six rounds. A portable blood-alcohol test was administered to Morris. The results were not available.
