Grove man charged after domestic violence incident

A Union Grove man has been criminally charged after allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend early Sunday.

Larry Beck, 27, is charged with felony strangulation/suffocation, as well as misdemeanor disorderly conduct and battery. All three charges have repeater clauses, and both the disorderly conduct and strangulation charges have domestic abuse assessments attached.

As of Monday, Beck remained in Racine County Jail on a $5,150 bond.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Racine County Circuit Court, the Racine County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call for family trouble on Sunday. When a deputy arrived on scene, the girlfriend advised that Beck was at their residence as well their two children.

She also told the deputy she was four months pregnant. The woman alleged that Beck came home drunk, and with a damaged vehicle. When the woman went out to the car to retrieve a few personal items, Beck allegedly told her, “You ain’t going anywhere, (expletive),” and grabbed her by the throat.

The woman told police that she couldn’t breathe, and that she was scared for her life. The incident was repeated a few minutes later when the woman allegedly went out to the car to retrieve her cell phone.

Two friends allegedly witnessed the event and tried to separate the two. The woman managed to injure Beck and free herself, but both refused medical assistance.

Beck told the deputy the accusations weren’t true, and that his girlfriend and another friend were “making up a story against me.”

The injuries to the woman were photographed. One of the witnesses refused to give a statement, while the other said he tried to break up the fight but couldn’t.
