LAVERNE S. MAAHS

Easter Lily      LaVerne S. (Payleitner) Maahs, 91, Milwaukee, went home to the Lord on July 25, 2015, at Maple Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Sheboygan on March 30, 1924, to the late Charles and Amanda (Milz) Payleitner.

She married Harry P. Tischer on July 12, 1947, in Milwaukee. They divorced in 1975, and she married Carl H. Maahs Sr., on Oct. 22, 1983, in Delafield. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1991.

She graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Racine. She was a registered nurse for more than 50 years and was very proud of her career in nursing. She was employed primarily at Johnston Emergency and Contagion Hospital and at the Milwaukee Mental Health Center.

Survivors include her children, Diann (Philip) Galassie, Janesville, Denise Tischer, Green Lake, Teri (Steven Nodine) Tischer, Milwaukee, Steven (Kelly) Tischer, Mason, Ohio, Eric Tischer (Patty Parker), Neenah; grandchildren, Jennifer Prado, James Galassie, Savannah Tischer-Nodine, Jillian Tischer and David Tischer; great-granddaughters: Kristina Prado and Sienna Nodine; a brother, Richard (Edith) Payleitner; and brother-in-law, Bud Baumeister.

She was further preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Maahs Sr., by the father of her children, Harry Tischer, a daughter: Lynn Tischer, a son, Stanley Tischer and her sister, Charlotte Baumeister.

Visitation is Wednesday, July 29, from 10-11 a.m., at Mealy Funeral Home, 225 W. Main St., Waterford, with services at 11 a.m. Chaplain Beverly Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
