HAROLD R. KOENEN

Easter Lily      Harold R. ‘Harry’ Koenen, 80, Burlington, died Aug. 14, 2015 at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington. He was born in Burlington on July 5, 1935, to the late Martin and Helen (Kerkman) Koenen. He lived his entire life in the Burlington area where he graduated from St. Mary’s High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1958 to 1960.

On Aug. 17, 1957, he married Mary Lynn Hawkins. They made their home in Burlington where they raised their family. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2014.

He worked for J.W. Peters for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed doing woodworking projects, crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren and his pets.

Survivors include his children, Scott (Katie) Koenen, Kris (Julia) Koenen, Jeffrey (Patty) Koenen, Keith Koenen, Karen (Arnie) Gatrel; grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Janelle, Carrie, Craig, Catherine, Trisha, Carolyn, Amanda, Simone and Sierra: great-granddaughter, Savannah Lynn and one on the way; his sisters, Lorraine (John) Mutter and Judy Chase; in-laws, Lawrence Yanny, Joan (Cloyd) Porter and Jeanne (Al) Miller; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was further preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Yanny; brother-in-law, Dick Chase; niece, Susan Mutter; nephew, Patrick Nelson, and in-laws, Carol (Cal) Robers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Burlington Health & Rehab, the medical staff at Burlington Hospital and Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lyons, with the Rev. Jim Volkert officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 4-8 p.m. Burial is Wednesday at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
