STEPHEN J. ROBERS

Easter Lily      Stephen J. Robers, 59, Burlington, died Aug. 30, 2015, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee.

He was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 13, 1955, to Bert and Lillian (Russick) Robers. He was a lifetime resident of the Burlington area and graduated from St. Mary’s High School before attending UW–Madison where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

On July 10, 1982, he married Debra L. Spitzbart. Following marriage they made their home on the family farm. Steve’s family has owned and operated the farm since 1884 and he grew up loving farming. He was a fourth generation farmer, was part of the Wheatland Fire Department for over 30 years and served on the Farm Bureau Board as treasurer. His family was part of the Work Foreign Exchange Program, having numerous students from around the world working with them.

In addition to his love for farming he also enjoyed collecting toy tractors. He was a traveler and had been to Romania, and Cancun where one of his favorite places was Isla Mujeres.

Survivors include his wife; children, Benjamin Robers, Micheal (Teresa) Vanderhoef; grandchildren, Andrew, Abigail, Mikayla and Izabela Vanderhoef; his parents; his siblings, Dan Robers, Julie Robers and Mary (Rich) Wunder; great-nephew Wyatt; great-niece, Hailie; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Robers.

The family would like to thank the Twin Lakes Rescue Squad, the Intensive Care Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital, Dr. Ghandi and Flight for Life for their wonderful care and compassion.

Steve was known for his generosity and in his final gift was able to give the Gift of Life.

Visitation for family and friends is Friday, Sept. 4, from 3-7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington.

Services are Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Volkert presiding.
