GENE F. MATHER SR.

Easter Lily      Gene F. Mather Sr., 82, Burlington, died Oct. 8, 2015, at Aurora Memorial Hospital. He was born April 30, 1933. to the late Charles and Bernadette ‘Bunny’ (King) Mather in East Troy. His early life was spent on the family farm on River Road, Burlington. He served in the Korean War as a mechanic.

On April 4, 1970, he married Beverly Ketterhagen in Burlington. They had resided in Burlington the past 45 years.

He worked at various companies throughout his lifetime; Vulcan Material, Mather Specialty, Burlington Brassworks, Alby Ready Mix, Mel Burmeister Excavating, Burlington Roofing, and retired from Lyle Jacobs Excavating. He enjoyed the outdoors; gardening, fishing, hunting and most of all loved playing in the dirt. He also enjoyed tinkering with mechanics and woodworking. In his later years in life, he loved eating out and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; children, Scott (Kathy) Mather and Gene ‘Skip’ (Joette) Mather Jr.; grandchildren, Joe Hewitt, Matt (Jacqui) Hewitt, Jenna Mather and Cody Mather; great-grandchild, Harper Hewitt; siblings, Robert (Donna) Mather, Leroy (Rosie) Mather, Marlene Schilz, Jack (Sandy) Mather, Ron Mather; in-laws, Eileen (Sue) Boinski, Linda (Larry) Grover, Larry (Nancy) Ketterhagen, Kathy (David) Polze; mother-in-law, Loraine Ketterhagen; nieces; nephews; other relatives; friends; and his special fury buddy Miss Scuffie.

He was further preceded by his daughter, Sandy Mather; brother, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mather; brother-in-law, Ray Schilz; sister-in-law, Laura Mather; father-in-law, Lawrence Ketterhagen.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at Aurora Burlington Hospital, the ICU and hospice staff for their compassion and care.

Funeral services are Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m., at Schuette-Daniels Family Funeral Home, 625 Browns Lake Drive, Burlington, with the Rev. Rob Bolling officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Oct 16, from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial is Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2:30 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery, Waterford.
