Catholic Central will host Level 2 game next weekend

Second-seeded Catholic Central High School shook off a slow start Friday to explode for 41 unanswered points and rout Blackhawk 49-22 in a WIAA Division 7 level one football playoff game at the Topper Bowl in Burlington.

The Toppers trailed 8-7 early in the second quarter before breaking loose to turn the game into a rout. CCHS led 49-8 midway through the third quarter before sitting several first-stringers. Jacob Webley’s 48-yard touchdown run around left end with five minutes left in the third quarter touched off a continuously running clock.

Blackhawk capitalized on two fumble recoveries deep in CCHS territory to account for the final scores of the game.

The Toppers advance to play the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 3 Cassville and No. 6 Randolph.  Catholic Central will host the game, which is tentatively set for 7 p.m. Friday.

See next Thursday’s Burlington Standard Press for full coverage of the victory.
