Crash causes power outage at BHS

A motor vehicle crash along Burlington’s bypass highway reportedly caused a power outage at Burlington High School Monday morning.

Superintendent Peter Smet informed parents of the power outage in an automated telephone message shortly before 8 a.m. He said the school was using backup power generators where needed and classes would continue as scheduled with contingencies for the loss of power.

“We are able to maintain safety service and we’ll continue with the education the best we can for the next hour,” Smet said in the message. “All students are safe.”

Residents elsewhere in the city reported a temporary loss of power about 6:45 a.m.

Information on the crash that caused the outage was not immediately available.

See Thursday’s Burlington Standard Press newspaper for a full story on the outage.
