Residents escape apartment building fire

Residents of a 12-unit apartment building were safely evacuated early Wednesday when a fire broke out on a deck of one of the apartments.

The Racine County Communications Center received a 911 cell phone call reporting the fire at 2:29 a.m. from a resident of 520 Mill Avenue in the Village of Union Grove, according to officials with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find that the east end of the building was on fire. Deputies assisted in evacuating the residents.  All made it out and no injuries were reported.

Union Grove/Yorkville Fire Department fought the fire with assistance from the following departments:  South Shore, City of Burlington, Raymond, Kansasville, and the Racine Fire Bells.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene and assisted the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force.  There is no estimate on the amount of damage at this time, according to officials.
